Interleague play is underway in Nippon Professional Baseball, with Central and Pacific League clubs facing off over the next three weeks in one of the most important stretches of the season.
Each team will play a three game series against all six clubs from the opposite league, totaling 18 games from May 26 to June 14, with make-up days scheduled afterward if necessary. The team with the best overall record will be crowned interleague champion.
The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks enter as defending interleague champions, while the Pacific continues to hold the historical edge, having won interleague play in 15 of the 20 seasons since the format was introduced in 2005.
This year’s edition also marks the final season of interleague play without the designated hitter in Central League parks as NPB is set to adopt the universal DH in 2027. Now, let’s recap the first week of action.
