Also Known As: Seibu Dome
Opened in: 1979
Stadium Capacity: 32,725
Dimensions: LF & RF: 100 m (328 ft) / CF: 122 m (400 ft)
Description: The stadium was originally built without a top, but was given a facelift before the 1999 season. Unlike other domes, it does not have outer walls, and has a unique view of the surrounding forest. That being said, the roof protects the field from the outer elements, but the lack of walls exposes the fans to rain, wind, and worst of all, the humidity of the Japanese summer. Many find this completely unbearable when the temperature gets too hot or cold.
Traditionalists will appreciate that the MetLife Dome is the last remaining NPB ballpark to still have a live organist to entertain fans. Attendance is below league average, probably in part due to the ballpark’s location in Tokorozawa, which does not facilitate its Tokyo-working fans to get to weekday games in time.
