The “Seoul” of Baseball

Korea is finally getting noticed on the global baseball scene! MLB opened the 2024 season in front of loud, enthusiastic Korean crowds, a few months after superstar outfielder Jung Hoo Lee (nicknamed “Grandson of the Wind”) signed the largest contract ever for an Asian hitter.

Korean players play with emotion and flare (bat flips galore!), feeding off their passionate fans, which skew surprisingly young and female. And they have talent too, with one of the world’s best national teams and a steady stream of MLB-caliber players, highlighted most recently by Dodgers infielder Hye-Seong Kim.

Some aspects of our Korea tour that distinguish it from our Japan tour:

Premium seats! KBO teams do hospitality really well, and we take advantage by sitting in VIP-like areas that are close to the action and often have included food/drink or other perks.
We often use private vehicles with hired drivers instead of public transportation.
More hosted meals and group sightseeing than our Japan tour.

We broke this tour into two segments, so providing you three options:

The Full Tour: Attend nine KBO games at all nine KBO ballparks and stay in some of South Korea’s best cities.
Segment 1: Keep your base in Seoul and attend three KBO games in three ballparks.
Segment 2: Head south for six more KBO games in six ballparks in Gwangju, Daegu, Busan, and Daejeon before returning to Seoul for a final game.

This tour can be done as a stand-alone tour or in conjunction with one or more segments of our annual Japan baseball tour.

This tour may be very physically demanding for some guests due to our frequent travel. In addition to frequently walking to and through public transit stations, we will change hotels several times via sometimes long train rides. It is required that all guests must be able to carry/roll their own luggage during train transfers for about 1/3 mile (including up and down flights of stairs), and also lift their bags to the overhead space on trains.

Our trip to Korea was fantastic beyond belief. We had awesome tickets to each game. We arrived a couple of days early (I recommend this for internal body clock adjustment) and we took a lovely self guided walking tour in Seoul near our hotel that was put together by JapanBall. Our local guides, Joe and Diego, did a fantastic job introducing us to the variety of Korean street food - all interesting and tasty! Being able to take food and drinks into the ballpark made all of the difference. One of the most memorable meals was when our guides brought their electric grills to our seats in the right field picnic area, where they prepared a "home cooked" dinner of meats, veggies, and rice, complete with sodas. One experience that we really enjoyed was sitting in the cheering section of the home team's fans, along the first base line. This meant that we stood for half the game while cheering along with the cheerleaders, using bashing bat noisemakers. This was so much fun! Another highlight was a trip to the DMZ near North Korea, where we were able to get some real North Korean money and postage stamps. We also got to visit one of the tunnels that were discovered coming from North Korea. Also, being able to see into North Korea highlighted just how different the two countries are. Getting to meet and speak with some of the KBO players from North America was memorable, and I think that the English speaking players enjoyed speaking with us. In general, each day had sightseeing in the morning and early afternoon, and a game each night. There are no games scheduled for Mondays. We spent one non-baseball day visiting Gyeongju, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotels selected were top-notch and well located for access to the local train system. This was a well planned tour with great attention to detail. We saw all but two of the KBO stadiums. I look forward to returning to Korea to see games at the stadiums we missed this time. JapanBall put together a memorable trip, which was greatly enhanced by Joe and Diego's enhancements.

Our first time experience with Korean baseball games was awesome! We were treated to a premier lounge at one game with a grand buffet, and behind home plate seating and lounge access at 2 other games. Enthusiastic fans for each team had catchy chants, songs and dances that made the ballgame appear like a rock concert. Our local Korean guides were very knowledgeable, resourceful and helpful in guiding the tour members. The tour also added depth to our experience by including visits to historic and cultural sites in Korea via luxury buses. All in all, a wonderful and fun tour of Korea and Korean baseball!

I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The tour was very well organized, with good attention to detail, and it went off without a hitch. Though it was baseball-themed, the itinerary also included other types of activities on most of the days, so there was a good balance. There was also the opportunity to squeeze in an extra activity, so I was able to go tour the Demilitarized Zone. Also, one is not required to do everything on the itinerary, so if you want to take a break, you can. The in-country tour guides, Joil and Daesung, were very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The hotels were very good, and we ate at a variety of good restaurants. I definitely recommend the tour.

This trip was a great introduction to South Korea and South Korean baseball. The games were amazing! Having been on several Japanese baseball tours I thought I thought that Japanese fans had to be the most lively and enthusiastic fans of any sport. Wrong! The South Korean baseball fans outdid them and it was sheer bliss to experience it. Not just cheering but singing and dancing on every pitch. Really cool. The accommodations and the food were great and Shane made sure to have plenty of local tour guides on hand to both guide and educate us. I mean how often to you get to tour the Korean DMZ during the day and watch great baseball that evening? Thanks, Shane, for a truly memorable trip.
