2025 Okinawa Spring Training Tour

Please note: This is a sample tour description based on the 2024 itinerary. 2025 tour itineraries and descriptions will be finalized later in 2024. 

Escape the winter for baseball paradise! With its tropical beaches, rich and unique culture, delicious local cuisine, and notable military history, Okinawa is worth a visit even without baseball. But visit Okinawa in the spring, and you’ll be treated to baseball paradise: NPB Spring Training.

Just like in the U.S., Japanese Spring Training is an intimate experience. You can watch the players practicing on the backfields and get better photo and autograph opportunities than in the regular season. However, NPB Spring Training is not the tourist magnet that MLB’s Spring Training is today. Diehards and locals attend, but the crowds are relatively small. It’s like the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues used to be back in the day, when “Spring Training” was just “spring training,” a hidden gem for baseball purists!

Join us as we experience incredible cultural activities like glass blowing and crafting sweets by hand. We’ll also visit famous attractions like museums, zoos, and parks. And naturally, there will be tons of NPB baseball excitement!

*Itinerary

Segment 1: Okinawa

  • Monday, February 17: Optional early arrival (recommended)
  • 2/18: Tour begins (must arrive to Okinawa by 3pm), hosted welcome dinner
  • 2/19: Nippon-Ham Fighters workout, visit Shikuwasa Park
  • 2/20: Yakult Swallows workout, Ryukyu glass experience, Himeyuri Peace Museum
  • 2/21: World War II History Tour, Strawberry picking, Okinawa handmade sweets workshop
  • 2/22: NPB Spring Training game
  • 2/23: NPB Spring Training game
  • 2/24: NPB Spring Training game
  • 2/25: Chunichi Dragons workout, hosted happy hour at baseball-themed bar
  • 2/26: Tour ends – depart Okinawa.

Segment 2: Miyazaki

  • Monday, February 26: Fly to Miyazaki, hosted dinner
  • 2/27: NPB Spring Training game
  • 2/28: NPB Spring Training game
  • 3/1: Orix Buffaloes workout, visit Miyazaki Phoenix Zoo
  • 3/2 : SoftBank Hawks workout
  • 3/3: Chiran Peace Museum and other local sightseeing
  • 3/4: Tour ends – depart Miyazaki

It was a pleasure to go to Okinawa in February to escape Seattle winter! Weather was mild except for 1 cold day, which didn't bother me. We were taken to workouts at Chiba Marines, Nippon Fighters, and Hiroshima Carp spring training facilities by bus and taxi since Okinawa public transit isn't prolific like Tokyo. And games at Yomiuri Giants, Yakult Swallows, and Nagoya Dragons stadiums against Hanshin Tigers were like regular JapanBall games. The Japanese fans were also excited for baseball; they were at workouts and attendance was almost sold out for the games. Their oendans (cheering sections) were mostly in game form with their chants and songs. Learned Okinawa history from the cultural tours and our Oknawan guide. Lots of great food and this tour had a good mix of JapanBall guests and guides. Sign me up for next year's tour!

JapanBall’s NPB spring training tour to Okinawa combines an abundance of baseball, lots of local food and drink, and a close look at the history of WW2 on this beautiful island. Highly recommend!

"I no longer go to spring training in either Arizona or Florida because, for me, it's gotten too commercialized and too expensive - almost like the regular season. But I recommend this trip to the Japanese teams' training camps in Okinawa. There is a more relaxed atmosphere - like MLB spring training once was - and you learn something about the history of Okinawa, which most Americans know little or nothing about and is actually quite interesting. Okinawa has more of a tropical feel than the rest of Japan, so it's a different experience. This trip is a good combination of baseball, culture, and food. "
